Raya Turner

- Raya is currently completing an Honours degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry
- She has been accepted into the Master of Environmental Life Sciences program for the fall of 2024
- She has been inducted into the President’s Honour Society and Dean’s Honour list
- She is a proud Red River Métis woman in Science
- Raya was granted an NSERC USRA in the summer of 2023
- She excels at research, seamlessly transitioning between tasks and projects with contagious enthusiasm and curiosity for science
- She is involved in the Let’s Talk Science program where she openly shares her passion for science. Through her efforts in collaboration with the co-coordinator, they have re-energized this program.
- She is the BUSU Indigenous Student Representative, student club member, and a student marker
- Participated in the STEMINIST convention and the Western Manitoba Science Fair
- She is collectively inspired by both sides of her family to be the best person she can be. She lives her best life with her partner, two fur babies and her fish
- She hopes to become a research biologist and thanks past teachers like Paul Friesen

I will #BreakTheBias by continuing to uplift women in my field, by interrupting and stopping sexism in its place, and by showing up authentically as a proud Red River Métis woman in Science.
