Gretta Sayers is Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Aural Skills at the School of Music at Brandon University. Dr. Sayers’ research explores the perception of music, specifically the perception of musical form in post-common practice art music.

Dr. Michelle Lam (she/her) is the director of BU CARES Research Centre and a member of the Curriculum and Pedagogy department in the Faculty of Education at Brandon University. She is interested in equity and arts-based research that creates informal opportunities for learning. Michelle joined SWRC as the Faculty of Education representative in 2022. joined SWRC because she wanted to get to know other women on campus and to find ways to support and promote their research.

Cheryl Fleming (She/her) is the Diversity and Human Rights Advisor at Brandon University.  She is a Registered Social Worker a proud Indigenous Woman of Métis descent.  Cheryl is a social justice advocate for anti-racism and inclusion initiatives, gender marginalized communities, bias awareness, decolonization, and promoting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.  Cheryl is an advocate for a diverse workforce and believes diversity helps the organization succeed.  Cheryl is trauma informed, understands ethical and confidentiality considerations and culturally sensitive to all backgrounds, and Newcomers to Canada.  Cheryl joined the SWRC in 2020 as an ex-officio member to support women and marginalized genders at Brandon University.

Katie Whelpton (she/her) has been the Dean of Students since 2016.  She serves as a strong and effective advocate for students and ensures the provision of essential supports at every stage of the student life cycle through an amazing Student Services team.

Lisa Wood is a visual artist and Associate Professor at IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at Brandon University. With an a MFA from Yale University and a BFA from the University of Manitoba, her figurative art practice broadly investigates inclusion, marginalization and interpersonal connections.

Nadine Smith is a Registered Nurse and a Canadian Certified Nurse Educator. Nadine’s research interests include: mental health and well-being, nursing and psychiatric nursing education, clinical education, peer mentorship, sense of belonging, and the lived experience of nurses and students.

Dr. Etsuko Yasui is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Disaster and Emergency at Brandon University. Dr. Yasui is interested in the social aspects of natural disasters, particularly social vulnerability, human development, and long-term consequences.

Lindsay McLachlan is an Assistant Professor in Business Administration in the Faculty of Arts at Brandon University. Her research interests include equity and inclusion and women in accounting academia.

Sarah Hall is a member of the Faculty of Music at Brandon University. She is an active soprano singer, conductor, vocal coach, and educator.

Jessica Laxdal has been the Sexual Violence Education and Prevention Coordinator at Brandon University since late 2023. Her role is to oversee campus-wide initiatives related to raising awareness, education, prevention, support, and empowering environment for survivors of sexualized violence.
