New asphalt road. Road asphalt works. Construction works

New asphalt coming soon to 18th Street.

The Province of Manitoba is paving 18th Street starting Sept. 16 (weather permitting). The project will be done in stages with each stage expecting to take 3 to 5 days. This may change due to weather, traffic congestion and unaccounted for road conditions. The stages that will impact entry, exit to the university and the front loop on 18th street are:

  • Stage 1 – Rosser Avenue to Louise Avenue Southbound, on the west side of 18th street – starting Sept. 16, 2024
  • Stage 2 – Louise Avenue to McTavish Avenue Southbound, on the west side of 18th street – starting after Stage 1
  • Stage 5 – McTavish Avenue to Louise Avenue Northbound, on the east side of 18th street – starting TBD, after paving work further south
  • Stage 6 – Louise Avenue to Rosser Avenue Northbound, on the east side of 18th Street – starting after Stage 5

There will be times throughout this process when you will not be able to cross over 18th Street at various points during the milling and paving. Pedestrian crosswalks may be closed at times during construction.

Work will include concrete curb repairs, milling of the existing asphalt and paving over the milled surface.  This work requires the application of road oil to the road surface, and although the oil remains uncovered for a brief period, it does not mix well with children, pets, or vehicles.

Please be mindful of the work and avoid these areas during construction.  As alternate routes onto campus during this time, the stars on the map below indicate roads that should remain accessible.
