Asbestos – General Information
Asbestos and asbestos containing materials were commonly used in the Canadian construction industry before legislation identified them as a hazard up to the 90’s. At Brandon University, buildings built prior to the 1990’s have the potential to contain asbestos. Therefore, in instances where construction, renovations, or alterations to a building are to take place, laboratory results for the particular building material(s) being impacted must be provided. In the absence of laboratory results, the Physical Plant Health and Safety Department must be consulted to perform an asbestos assessment.
Laboratory results, Building inventory, and historical information regarding Asbestos Containing Materials on campus are stored at Physical Plant with our Health and Safety Department.
