Tenure-Track (Probationary) Position, Department of Sociology – Faculty of Arts

The Department of Sociology at Brandon University invites applications for a probationary tenure-track position; this position will be jointly appointed in Gender & Women’s Studies, with Sociology as the home Department. The preferred qualification for this position is a PhD in Sociology. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the doctorate and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials. ABD applicants nearing completion prior to the start date of the appointment may also be considered.

The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic instructor for courses that range from large first-year introductory courses to upper-level seminars and shall provide evidence of teaching competence in Sociology and/or Gender and Women’s Studies. It is expected that these courses will be taught in person. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to two or more of the following thematic areas: Indigenous perspectives, Crime and Community, Postcolonialism/Decolonization, and/or Critical Race Theory. In addition, the successful candidate must have an active research and publishing program. Willingness to participate collegially in service to the department, university and the community that it serves will be expected.

Start Date: 3 January 2025, or upon the availability of the successful candidate.

Rank and Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience
