2025 Spring, Course-Based Contract Opportunities, Dept. of Francophone Studies & Languages – Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following three courses taught in the French and Francophone Studies program and the Certificate in French Language Proficiency I and II (Department of Francophone Studies and Languages) at the Brandon University Campus for the Spring 1 and 2 terms. The courses may be delivered in an online synchronous format but preference will be given to qualified candidates who will teach in-person.

Please apply by submitting a letter of application, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three referees in a single pdf file in English to the Office of the Dean of Arts (see email below). The course will run based on sufficient enrollment and budgetary approval.

Qualifications: Applicants must have successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in the specified area. They will hold a Master’s Degree in a related field, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the doctorate and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $6901.00 per 3 credit hour course.

Spring 1 (May 5-26, 2025)

58.151 Monday-Thursdays 7pm-10pm
Prerequisite: Score of “C” or lower on mandatory placement test. The course aims to provide knowledge of basic French grammar and vocabulary, and to develop reading, pronunciation, and conversational skills. Students must complete 58:FREN:151 and 152 before proceeding to 58:FREN:155.

58.257 Monday-Thursdays 9am-12pm
Prerequisite: one of the following: FREN 40S or 58:FREN:155 with “C” or better grade. Taught in French. This course aims to expand knowledge of French grammar and to develop a more diverse vocabulary from a cultural point of view (past and future tenses, subjective and conditional modes, complex sentences). It is student-centered and adopts an integrated approach with an experiential focus. Language is approached as a whole and is presented in authentic, communicative situations on cultural subjects such as art, history, politics, etc. Note: This course is not available to students whose first language is French.

Spring 2 (June 2-19, 2025)

58.152 Monday-Thursdays 7pm-10pm
Prerequisite: 58:FREN:151. This is a continuation of 58:FREN:151. Following this course, students proceed to Intermediate French I and II. Students must complete both 58:FREN:151 and 152 before proceeding to 58:FREN:155
