Probationary (Tenure Track) Position, Department of Geography and Environment – Faculty of Science
The Department of Geography and Environment at Brandon University invites applications for a probationary tenure track position in Human Geography beginning Jan 2025. The Department welcomes applications from candidates within the broad fields of Urban, Cultural, and Social Geographies with research expertise in areas such as Decolonizing Geographies, Indigenous Geographies, Geographies of Migration, and Geographies of Food and Food Sovereignty. We expect the successful candidate to be an enthusiastic instructor for courses that range from large first-year introductory courses to graduate level seminars. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a suite of undergraduate courses within their area of expertise that may include: Human Geography; Economic Geography; Urban Geography; Quantitative Methods; Qualitative Methods; Cultural Geography; Geographies of Food; Regional Geographies; and Global Environmental Change. Candidates are invited to consult the Brandon University course calendar for more information on the program offerings. It is expected that these courses will be taught in person. The successful candidate will be expected to develop scholarship and research activities and will also have the opportunity to supervise and teach graduate students in the Interdisciplinary Master of Science in Environmental and Life Sciences and/or the Master of Arts in Rural Development. Willingness to participate collegially in meaningful service to the department, university, and the community will be expected.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D.* in Geography or related field at the time of application or shortly thereafter is preferred.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and learning opportunities and must provide evidence of teaching competence.
- Experience teaching courses in human geography will be considered an asset.
- Research experience will be considered an asset.
