Fall & Winter 2025/26 Terms, Course-Based Contract Opportunities, Department of Psychology – Faculty of Science

The Department of Psychology is seeking Contract Academic Staff to teach the following courses at Brandon University for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. These courses may be delivered in an online synchronous format, but preference will be given to qualified candidates who will teach in-person.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Psychology is preferred; Masters’ Degree in Psychology is required. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
  • Applicants must have successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in the specified area.
  • Knowledge and experience with Instructional Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, D2L) would be an asset.

Salary: $7857.00 per 3 credit hour course

82:160 Abnormal Psychology, 3 credit hours
This course is designed to introduce the student to the scientific study of mental disorders. Students will be exposed to assessment and diagnosis of various forms of mental disorders included in the current diagnostic system. Various theoretical explanations associated with these disorders and intervention strategies will be examined.
Wednesday evenings 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Fall term (September – December)

82:361 Counselling Psychology I, 3 credit hours
This course examines psychotherapeutic theories, their use and role in various counselling situations. The survey of theories will encompass those of historic importance, but will emphasize modern, contemporary developments in this field.

82:451 Advanced Psychological Assessment, 3 credit hours
This course will offer students a primer to a variety of psychological tests, following a basic introduction to how tests are developed in 82:370. Students will learn about how comprehensive psychological assessments are conducted and a variety of techniques will be presented, including those assessing such domains as intelligence, memory and executive functioning, academic achievement, socio-emotional functioning and personality, over the lifespan. Psychological assessments will be discussed in terms of their significance in applied settings including schools, forensic institutions, and hospitals/medical clinics.
Wednesday evenings 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Winter term (January – April)

82:475 Counselling Psychology II, 3 credit hours
This course will emphasize practical strategies and skills of counselling. Students will gain experience counselling in analogue situations, using videotapes, role-playing, and direct observation techniques. This course will emphasize developing knowledge and experience with the practical skills and treatment interventions commonly used in counselling situations. Students will gain experience with counselling skills through exposure to case studies and role-playing in analogue therapy interactions with peers. There will be extensive use of case study materials in class to give students experience in case formulation and development of treatment plans from various theoretical orientations. It is assumed that students taking this course will have previous knowledge of the main theoretical perspectives from taking Counseling Psychology I (82:374).
