Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager of the Physical Plant, primary duties of the Electrician involve the maintenance, repair, and installation of various electrical systems and mechanical equipment, including motors, generators, pumps, fans, compressors, and related electrical and electronic controls. Key responsibilities include inspecting and testing fire alarms and communication systems, maintaining electrical drawings, installing, calibrating, and maintaining heating and cooling systems, and ensuring the proper operation of HVAC and DDC systems. The role also requires timely response to emergencies and trouble calls, requiring on-call rotations, as well as effective communication with management and clients regarding service interruptions. Additional duties include assisting with equipment calibration, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations, managing materials, occasionally supervising personnel, preparing estimates, participating in meetings, and assisting with construction projects. The position will require physical tasks such as lifting, working in confined spaces, and using scaffolding. Other relevant tasks may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate requires a High School diploma or GED, a Journeyman Electrician license recognized by the Province of Manitoba Department of Labour, and must have and maintain a valid Manitoba driver’s license. They must be able to read blueprints and schematic drawings, demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), and work effectively with minimal supervision. Proficiency in computer software, including word processing, data entry, internet, and email, is also required.

Additional assets include training in Programmable Logic Controllers and electronics, experience with HVAC and DDC systems, a Canadian Fire Alarm Association certificate, and familiarity with electrical distributions ranging from low voltage to 5 KV.
