Joan Church
Joan is a Métis Elder from the Southwest Region. She originated from Bowsman Ridge but grew up in Swan River. She graduated from Brandon University Northern Teacher's Education Program in 1981. Joan worked as a classroom teacher from 1982 until her retirement in 2013. She then worked as an Residential Care Worker for Addictions Foundation of Manitoba from 2014-2020.
Joan is now actively enjoying retirement and her involvement with Brandon University Indigenous Peoples' Centre. She is an avid crib player and beader. She hosts crib night in IPC and beading groups in the Métis room on campus.
Joan is a parent to 5 daughters, Granny to 7 grandkids, and Kookum to 4 great grandkids with more on the way. She currently lives with her cat who she adores.
