Giving the Gift of Flexibility
The Honourable Warren K. Winkler, O.C., O.Ont., K.C., LL.D. (Hon.) attended Brandon College after encouragement from his academically inclined family. “Brandon was the perfect fit in every way,” shares Warren, who credits the small classes and individualized attention to helping him develop intellectually, while preparing for his future career path.
Warren obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Brandon College in 1959 before continuing his education at the distinguished Osgoode Hall Law School where he obtained Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees. A decorated career ensued. He practised law for 28 years across Canada and another 21 years in the highest ranks of the Canadian judicial system. Among his many notable achievements, Warren is a Member of the Order of Ontario and an Officer of the Order of Canada. He received an honorary degree from Brandon University in 2007, recognizing his success and continued connection.
“Brandon University plays an important role as a stepping stone for students like me. That is why I believe it’s important to support BU.” Warren has generously contributed his support: offering his time on pertinent university interests, staying connected with fellow alumni, and through financial support. Warren and his wife, Ruth, choose to direct their gifts to the area of greatest need, providing the flexibility to allocate funds when and where they are needed most.
Warren encourages today’s students to take full advantage of opportunities to engage wherever possible. He shares, “timing is everything when it comes to opportunities. I will be forever indebted to those I met at Brandon College. The encouragement, curiosity, and compassion I experienced were something special.”
