Dr. Ian Dickson has been giving to Brandon University for more than 30 years. A member of the Brandon College Class of ’58, Ian, along with his late wife Donna (née McDonald) from the Class of ’60, has supported many areas, including the renovations to Clark Hall and the Original Building, and scholarships and bursaries. Most recently, he provided a $10,000 gift in support of the School of Music.

After completing a Bachelor of Science at Brandon College, Ian received a Master of Science from University of Manitoba in 1964, and a PhD in Fisheries from Utah State University in 1968. His career in government, corporate and private consulting extended over 50 years and involved fisheries development in Thailand, as well as the establishment of the Red River Heritage Recreation Corridor along some 30 kilometers of the Red River, including the Forks Project. He served as Vice President, Environment for Manitoba Hydro, and did consulting work for hydro-electric developments in northern Manitoba.

Ian has also provided tremendous volunteer support to the University. He served as co-chair of the Brandon College Legacy Campaign, assisted with the Success in Mind Campaign, and is a former member of the Brandon University Foundation. In 2007 he was a recipient of its Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award.

“Donna and I always received a great deal of satisfaction from our ongoing support of Brandon University, and I continue to do so through this gift. Congratulations to the School of Music on the first-class education they provide.”
