Economics

Societies are confronted with three basic questions when managing their economic resources.

  • Which goods and services are required and how much of each should be produced?
  • What techniques should be used to produce these goods and services?
  • What allocation of these goods and services should be made?

Economists help society to understand why interest rates fluctuate and oil prices rise and fall. They assist society in using its economic resources wisely. Courses in the Economics Department can be divided into three categories.

  1. Those that explain the techniques of analysis within the discipline.
  2. Those that apply these techniques to particular sections of the economy.
  3. Those that explain the influence of economic forces in the development of particular societies.

The honours degree program provides students with enhanced employment skills and the necessary background for successful entry into a master’s degree.
