Arts, Science, BA/BEd. Integrated, Phys Ed.
Newly admitted students to the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, and Physical Education Studies can book an advising appointment, plan their courses, and register by following the steps below.
Academic Advising for first-year students is strongly recommended; please complete steps 1 through 4.
Students choosing to register on their own without academic advising must also view the New Student Advising Tutorial Videos in Moodle and follow steps 1, 2, and 4 to learn how to plan courses and register.
Step 1: Claim your student ID and Login to Moodle
-
- If you have not already done so, please Claim Your ID. Remember/record your username and password because you will use them to log into important student portals. If you experience difficulties with this process please contact the IT Helpdesk at 204-571-8500 or helpdesk@brandonu.ca.
- Open the Brandon University Moodle website. (Open this link in a new tab or window so you can continue following these instructions.) Moodle is a learning platform that will allow you to watch videos to learn How To Register.
- Login to Moodle using your Brandon University username and password that you claimed. (eg. SMITHTA18).
- Click on the New Student Advising link under Main Menu on the left side of the Moodle homepage.
- Enter the enrolment key, which is newbustudent, and click Enrol Me once you have entered the key.
Step 2: New Student Advising Tutorial
Once you are logged into the New Student Advising Moodle Tutorial, you must watch the following 5 videos that are available in Moodle (time to completion: ~1 hour). This tutorial is important to review before meeting your academic advisor or planning and registering on your own. Students may be asked to reschedule an advising appointment if they have not prepared or reviewed the video tutorials.

- How to Use the Online Registration System
- Familiarize yourself with the Course Registration Guide, and the Current Academic Calendar, and jot down any courses you think you might be interested in. Bring the list to your advising appointment.
- Academic advisors will discuss options with you. Advisors will not tell you what classes to take, nor will they describe each class.
- Students must be prepared to make decisions regarding choice of potential major(s), minor(s), and courses for the upcoming academic year.
Step 3: Advising and Course Planning
Newly admitted students starting courses in September 2024 can book an appointment by clicking an Academic Advisor link below. After clicking an advisor’s name, you must login with your BU account in order to book an appointment. Please enter your BU email (e.g. SMITHJ24@brandonu.ca) and password when prompted.
Transfer students must select Alex Braun, Trent Gill, or Connor Trueman.
If you are a returning student (attended classes at BU this past year) please go to the main Academic Advising website for advising information. Returning students who book an appointment designated for newly admitted students will have that appointment cancelled.
Trent Gill • Alex Braun • Connor Trueman • Kathleen Richards
Students who choose to plan their courses on their own can proceed to Step 4.
For any degree or program listed below, please click on the appropriate link for advising information.
Step 4: Course Registration
Online registration is now available for all new students. Students who have planned their courses (using the steps above and/or resources below) can proceed to the online registration system.
You can learn about degree requirements, course planning, and course selection by reviewing the New Student Advising Tutorial in Step 2 (above). We recommend that students have their courses for the academic year planned before proceeding to online registration. Planning can be done with the following resources:
