Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Aug)

Salary Range: $17.53 - $21/hr, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position. Location: Brandon MB

What You Will Do

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of various DUC upland projects, including:

• Operating large equipment for seeding and planting activities
• Managing chemical and mechanical weed control through the use of ATVs and tractors
• Conducting controlled burns to promote land health and habitat restoration on DUC properties.
• Installing project signage on DUC properties.
• Collaborate with a team to plan and coordinate field activities, such as equipment mobilization, property inspections, and landowner meetings.
• Assist with the establishment and management of annual projects, perform regular inspections, and contribute to the maintenance of shop facilities and equipment.

Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position will also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, have flexibility with hours and travel, and be able to follow directions to execute tasks safely and efficiently without direct supervision.

Requirements

• Pursuing a career in agriculture, engineering technology, biology, plant ecology, environmental science or resource management.
• Valid driver’s license; some travel within Southern MB
• Experience driving manual transmission, farm tractors, operating ATV’s, and towing trailers.
• Farm experience will be considered a large asset.
• Navigating with landowner maps (legal descriptions)
• GIS capabilities, familiar with GPS units
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed, which may include longer days, evenings and weekends at times.
• Comfortable working as part of a team or independently
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
• Must have a passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors.
