The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Mines and Minerals Specialist position within our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Mines and Minerals Specialist will research, inform, and report on all mineral exploration, mine development and reclamation related matters to any project, and attend mining-related meetings across the Red River Métis Homeland as necessary.

Job Duties/Competencies:
• Develop policy options and recommendations based on research and analysis on the impacts of mining-related activities on Red River Métis section 35 rights, claims and interests;
• Prepare information and options to present to MMF Cabinet;
• Prepare annual and monthly activity reports;
• Assist in the preparation of annual work plans;
• Prepare program and funding proposals;
• Assist in negotiations for services and contracts;
• Attend community workshops and meetings and coordinate the facilitation of meetings, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Resource Management, or equivalent education will be considered;
• Experience negotiating with federal and provincial departments;
• Experience in policy and program development;
• Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is an asset;
• Experience or training in quantitative data analysis;
• Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
