What you will gain

Are you considering a career as a Border Services Officer?

If yes, then gain experience as a SBSO - it is an asset when you apply to become a Border Services Officer.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for post-secondary students who share CBSA’s values of integrity, respect, and professionalism.

It is paramount that the CBSA’s values of integrity, respect, and professionalism are upheld at all times and that the laws of Canada are enforced or administered with impartiality and fairness. SBSOs serve the public and are committed to treating all members of society equitably and with respect. As an SBSO, you will encounter a variety of situations that will challenge you in different ways while working as a representative of Canada.

Are you eligible?

To be eligible to apply, you must meet ALL the FSWEP eligibility criteria:

    • this includes persons with disabilities considered to have full-time status by their academic institution
  • be a full-time student during the entire hiring process (Fall 2024 and Winter/Spring 2024-2025)
  • be returning to full-time post-secondary school in September 2025
  • be at least 18 years old by the time training starts in April 2025

Notes

  • Proof of full-time post-secondary education will be requested throughout the hiring process.
  • Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents over non‑Canadian students who are eligible to work in Canada. See the Directive on Student Employment for more information on the Government of Canada's requirements for student employment.
  • All information collected during the selection process, including behaviour and communication, from the time of application to the end of the process, may be used to assess candidates and make hiring decisions.
