    Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Aug)

    Salary Range: $17.53 - $21/hr, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

    What You Will Do

    You will be responsible for assisting the habitat retention team and GIS team with various projects, including:

    • Overseeing project signage installation and coordinating utility locates.
    • Assisting staff with project field inspections and in-field GPS mapping of habitat on projects.
    • Consultation and collaboration with team members to create formal map documents in support of habitat retention and restoration using ArcGIS 10.x.
    • Managing numerous projects on tight deadlines while communicating task status among involved staff.

    Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position will also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, have flexibility with hours and travel, and be able to follow directions to execute tasks safely and efficiently without direct supervision.

    Requirements

    • Completed or enrolled in a technical diploma in GIS and/or university degree in geography, natural resources, agricultural or related discipline or related experience.
    • Can navigate to locations with landowner maps (legal descriptions) and is familiar with GPS units.
    • Solid understanding and strong working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 10.x. and geodatabase file management systems and making cartographically sound maps.
    • A valid driver’s license is required; some travel within Southern MB.
    • Experience operating power tools and ATVs is an asset.
    • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, which may include longer days at times.
    • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting while keeping others informed of your progress.
    • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Passion for conservation, the environment, and the outdoors
