Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Aug)

Salary: Starting salary at $24/hr, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

Location: Brandon, MB.

What You Will Do

You will be responsible for assisting construction and engineering staff with survey and project repairs, annual project engineering inspections, project drafting, and shop & equipment maintenance.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Field topo surveys and construction (layout using GPS and laser levels).
  • Working closely with government and other regulatory bodies.
  • Preparing cost estimates and proposals.
  • CAD drafting of construction plans and details.
  • Project site inspections and landowner meetings.
  • Assisting with construction supervision in the field and overall project coordination.
  • Day-to-day operation and maintenance of DUC’s wetland projects

Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position may also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Working towards a degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in the engineering fields below from a recognized technical institute is required. (Civil, Environmental, Water Resources Engineering Technology, Engineering Design Technology or Geospatial Engineering)
  • Familiarity with land survey techniques, familiarity with GPS data collectors
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Comfortable working as part of a team or independently
  • Ability to work long/flexible hours outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Passion for conservation, the environment, the outdoors & safety.

Assets

  • Arcmap, familiarity with GPS data collectors and previous use of topographic maps.
  • Experience with RTK GPS topographic surveying and industry standard GIS software
  • Knowledge and experience with CAD and air photo interpretation.
  • Experience towing trailers and operating an ATV.
  • Experience working around heavy equipment.
  • Awareness of provincial Occupational Health and Safety practices.
