About the conference:
The coronavirus pandemic resulted in the unprecedented disruption of business practices. In 2020, the United Nation’s International Labor Organization found that there has been a global decline in working hours equating to approximately 225 million full time jobs. Organizations were compelled to find novel solutions to sustain their business.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) make up about 98% of all Canadian businesses. Such businesses are disproportionately impacted by disruptive forces such as inflation, technological advancements, and cataclysmic events such as the pandemic. Still recovering from peak COVID era closures and restrictions, entrepreneurs now find themselves faced with disrupted supply chains, rising interest rates, and warnings of an impending recession. Large businesses were able to address these challenges through emergent technologies such as machine intelligence, and big data analytics but were still impacted by recent events.
Therefore, there are global challenges that SMEs and entrepreneurs confront today!
Entrepreneurship has always been considered a driver for economic development and employment creation. In addition to conditions such as monetary policy, fiscal policy, business expectations, and competitiveness, entrepreneurial activity is entwined with the labor market. Entrepreneurs create jobs. Entrepreneurial firms drive new industries that promote regional economic development. Success stories about local entrepreneurs who promote indigenous tourism, rural culinary experiences from the heartlands, and creating sustainable fashion lines demonstrate how opportunities were leveraged by entrepreneurs in the wake of insurmountable global challenges.
Thus, this meeting is also a celebration of local opportunities creating these success stories!
We encourage you to submit original research and educational papers in all areas of entrepreneurship for the upcoming Brandon University Business Conference 2023 (November 23-25) in all areas of business. Brandon University is committed to reconciliation and strengthening connections with the Indigenous community, and as such, welcome papers that consider these groups. We especially encourage papers with a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.
What better place to promote entrepreneurship than Brandon, Manitoba? Brandon is known as the “Wheat City” as it is in the heart of the Canadian prairies and has deep agricultural roots. The city processes meat, fertilizers and chemicals and has thriving businesses of all sizes. These include real estate, construction, retail, healthcare & social assistance, and finance.
